Review of Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike

Pros: Super compelling story, great insights into using a combo of tenacity and intuition

Cons: Doesn't examine the privileges that played a part in Phil's success

Buy? Yes, I strongly recommend it.

I don't recommend many business books, but this was an unusually good one. The narrative behind the creation of one of the biggest brands on earth is fascinating and inspirational. There are a lot of lessons around tenacity that young entrepreneurs could take a lot from in this book.

The only real knock I have against the book is that there's no self-examination of the privileges that helped get this company off the ground. From parental loans to the opportunities afforded someone with access to track coaches, international travel, and mentors from a young age, there is ample opportunity for a rich examination of middle-class white privilege that could be very instructive... but it's not touched on at all.

Still highly recommend you read it.
